Class 5 Mrs Cooper: Blog
Ok, it's been nearly four months since I last blogged but I've decided to make a new effort to try and keep this blog updated as much as possible. I'd like to think of this blog as being like a furry animal coming out of hibernation for the Spring although it's still a bit cold and dark for that. All of you have been brilliant at writing your own blogs and I know a lot of you have enjoyed it so I am REALLY SORRY for not being as good as you and not replying to your messages (especially Kristi - it was a dental abscess and I got a really nasty reaction to the medicine that was supposed to make me better!) The plan is as follows - I'm going to update this blog at least every two weeks. If I don't, then you need to get on my case as it were. As I did for those of you who with me four years ago in Class 9, I will eat a raw carrot if I fail to meet this target. I'm sure you will remind me to do this.
I will be putting educational things up here but just to ease us back in to things and so I can experiment a bit I thought I would write about one of my favourite sports. When I was little, I used to stay and watch american football with my dad on a Sunday night before school and its something thats stuck with me for a long time. On Sunday February 7th, its their version of the FA Cup Final - the Super Bowl. Its on a bit late for me (and you!) but I will be recording it and watching it the next day. The sport is really growing in this country, 2009 was the third year a game has been staged at Wembley. Below is a picture of where I was sitting amongst the other 90,000 people in October!
Pretty amazing seats!!!
There is a really fun site where it picks who your favourite team is - www.nfluk.com/360. Choose the team tracker and play one of the three games.
The first person who ends up picking the team who I also support will be given a special prize. I don't know what that prize will be yet, it depends on what I find when I go to Tesco! But a prize awaits the lucky person who picks the same team as me. All you need to do is post a comment saying which team the team picker gives you. While you are there, have a look at some of the videos that are on the nfluk.com site and have a learn about the game. You will see that its not rugby for people who are scared. And girls, its not just a sport for boys to watch, girls love american football too and of course, american football is the sport which made cheerleading a sport itself too. Anyway, have a go at the competition and post your team in the comments!
After going on our visit today to the West View Project today, I noticed how so many of you were able to conquer your fears and do something you were a bit scared of.
I always think that if something is hard to do, it's always a good idea to try and do it because you get a great feeling when you have done it. There are quite a few things that I've done that have made me feel proud of myself. The first was when I did the Great North Run for the first time - I've now done it six times! The first time was the best and I was really proud of myself but when I got to the finish to look for my family they weren't there! The Metro train they had been on had broken down so it actually took me less time to run from Newcastle to South Shields than it did for them to get the train! So I guess that means I can run faster than a train. Or maybe not!
Something else that I have done of which I was really proud of was when I went to Carlton Camp a few years ago. I really don't like heights, especially when there is nothing for me to lean against or hold on to. At Carlton, there is a challenge called 'The Leap of Faith' where you have to climb a 20ft ladder to stand on a platform to jump off and hit a rubber ball. Although you are attached by a harness, it still is a bit scary. I wasn't going to have a go but I saw quite a few children manage to do it so I thought, "if they can do it, why can't I?" So off I went, climbing up the ladder till I reached the top of the pole. All was going well. The pole is quite narrow, you can get both of your feet on it but it is much easier for a child with size 4 feet than an adult with size 9s! I pulled myself onto the top of the pole and all of a sudden felt the wind pick up. My legs began to shake. I could barely keep my balance. Everyone thought I was going to fall off! After about a minute of trying to keep my balance, I managed to do it. I closed my eyes and jumped off the pole and hit the ball as hard as I possibly could! I had done it! All of the children in my group cheered me and it was a great feeling.
Even though I knew I shouldn't have been scared of something like that, I was. Despite the feeling of fear I had, the feeling of achievement I had when I came off was brilliant and I felt very proud. So, what have you done that has made you feel very proud? I'd love to know so please reply!
This is the first blog I have posted on here - please have a read and respond.
I can't imagine what life would be like without the internet now but when I was your age (how old do I sound there!?!) we kids didn't have the internet! Now I am all grown up, I use the internet every day - mainly to keep up with sports news and things. I am a big fan of american sport and on the internet you can get all the latest news, listen to podcasts and even watch live games with picture quality even better than what is on TV! When I have finished checking out sports things, I will usually have a look at what some of my friends who I don't see often are up to. I've got three friends in South Korea (look it up if you don't know where it is!) and without the internet, it would be almost impossible to keep in touch! For a bonus point - the first person on the blog who can post what the capital of South Korea is gets 5 hartleys!!!
So, what I would like to know is - How do you spend your time on the computer at home?
